Spain Counts Benefits of an EU-US FTA
Zone(s): Sapin, USA, EU ¦ Sector(s): Trade
[27 June 2014, Tax-News.com] By Ulrika Lomas, Tax-News.com, Brussels: Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has said that Spain stands to reap a substantial benefit from a free trade agreement currently being negotiated by the United States and the European Union. In response to a question posed to the minister in the upper house of parliament, Rajoy said that the Trans-Atlantic Free Trade Treaty would generate up to 143,000 jobs, and not less than 36,000, in Spain.
The reduction in tariff and non-tariff barriers, the opening up of markets, the removal of bureaucracy and the simplification of procedures, and the refund of operational costs will open up new opportunities to economic operators, and will create more choice for consumers on both sides of the Atlantic, he said.
