Indian spooks start GDP row

Zone(s): India ¦ Sector(s): Finance
[12 June 2014, CITY A.M.] The Indian Intelligence Bureau has reportedly hit out at Greenpeace and other non-governmental groups, claiming they have dramatically reduced the country’s economic growth rates.

The security service says that campaigns against nuclear and coal power production have hit the country’s GDP growth to the tune of two to three per cent each year, according to the Indian Express newspaper, which first reported the allegations.

Greenpeace hit back, with a statement alleging that the report “is designed to muzzle and silence civil society”, and asking the country’s minister of home affairs to see the full list of claims.
