Introduction

The countries of the modern Middle East are all part of Asia – it includes Afghanistan and Pakistan, and many North African countries like Egypt, Libya and Sudan. It also includes Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Jordan, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Turkey and Turkmenistan. The Middle East is surrounded by various bodies of water, such as the Mediterranean Sea, Arabian and Red Seas, Caspian Sea, Persian Gulf and the Indian Ocean.
