Ireland plans property tax relief for disabled homeowners

[17 June 2014, Tax-News.com] By Jason Gorringe, Tax-News.com, London: Irish taxpayers with disabilities may now be eligible for refunds after new concessions were allowed under Ireland’s Local Property Tax regime.

Heather Humphreys, TD for Cavan Monaghan, said that she had raised the issue with Finance Minister Michael Noonan after a number of her constituents found that they were ineligible to claim relief because adapting their home to meet their needs had moved their property into a higher LPT band, and they had not received a grant or award for the work. Humphreys said that the decision will make available two categories of relief, depending on the disability of the home owner.
